Talking about Offers

It's very difficult to sell a house without receiving an offer! Often clients will ask an agent's advice before making an offer and an agent's will need to be ready to give a quick overview of the market and the seller's intentions. It is, therefore, pretty imperative, that all estate agents will know how to talk about and answer questions related to offers. Let's see how to do that in French.

Let's start with some much-used phrases...

We haven't received any offers yet.
  • Souhaiteriez-vous faire une offre ?
Would you like to make an offer?
  • Que pensez-vous du prix ?
What do you think about the price?

Giving guidance

Sometimes, you know that the owner isn't disposed to negotiate, and you just have to communicate that to the possible buyers beforehand:

We recommend making a first offer of €500,000.
The owners are not willing to negotiate.

Reacting to an offer...

Once an offer has been made, I like to prepare clients for the owner's probable response:

  • Cela me semble être une offre raisonnable.
That seems like a reasonable offer.
I don't think that offer will be accepted.

Accepting and Rejecting

  • Je suis navré. Le propriétaire a refusé l´offre.
I'm sorry, the owner has rejected the offer.
I have good news. The owner has accepted the offer which you have made.
The owner didn't agree with the valuation which we made.
